I came home today and though I was unsure,
Curiosity and yearning lead me through the door.

Everything was much the same, comforts I knew so well,
But I was ever so different, in more ways than I could tell.

I came home today, probably well overdue,
I did not know what to expect or what I would even do.

And something sure was different, it had clearly been a while,
Though the shift was not a bad thing, in fact it made me smile.

I came home today, for the first time in years,
I laid my hand upon the barre and plié’d my way through tears.

What a journey I have been on, of times both bad and good,
And all this time I’ve been away, return I knew I would.

I came home today, and breathed life back into my heart.
I’m not the ballerina I used to be, but a dancer with a new start.

Now every time I return to class, it’s with joy that I will say,
I may be changed but I am happy, because I came home today.
