I was lucky enough to start my journey with Elancé going through the structured program and I’m grateful for the way it gently introduced me to the world of ballet. The Adult Ballet System’s program, Plié to Proficiency, is a wonderful introduction to ballet for the adult beginner and it is a delight to teach. I have noticed that my students who have completed the program not only have sound technique, but an understanding of how ballet works at a fundamental level. It is evident that every detail has been considered in the careful crafting of each class, whilst nurturing every student’s love for ballet. After serious injury ended my hopes of forging a career as a professional dancer, I returned to the “real world”, working in senior administration roles, both locally and abroad. Despite a career that would rate successful by most, the hole that ballet left behind was never quite filled. On returning to ballet as a thirty-year-old, I fell in love with the art-form all over again and knew that my work and my love had to be one and the same.
I started teaching adults in 2002, creating Elancé Adult Ballet School. Commencing with just myself and two students, the school is now a thriving community of over 600 adult ballet students and a talented team of teachers. Through the evolution of Elancé, I have created and refined a program to teach classical ballet to adult beginners. The program is so successful in guiding students from their first step to foundational proficiency, I believe it has to be offered to other studio owners wanting the same.
